THE REAL BACKSTORY

Hand me an About section for a company or organization, and I’m locked in. Ask me to write my own, and I feel as though I’ve never written a sentence in my life.

Apparently, eight years of experience disappears the moment I become my own subject. So, after spending entirely too much time researching the “right” way to write this, I finally said, “That’s it. I’m just going to tell the truth about how I got here."

Here’s the real backstory. Buckle up, buttercup.

I got into copywriting, content writing and website building because I needed a way out of a corporate job that was sucking the life out of me. I wanted stability, freedom and the chance to build a life around something I’ve always loved: writing.

I didn’t grow up dreaming about social media captions for roofing companies or how-to blogs for yoga studios. But somewhere along the way, I discovered that I’m especially good at taking complicated subjects and making them relatable, understandable and human.

Sometimes that means helping a business speak directly to a customer’s problem. Sometimes it means breaking down complicated legislation so voters can understand how it affects their lives. Either way, my job is the same: understand what people need and speak to them.

I’m wicked good at it, too.

I notice tone. I notice the little word that feels out of place. I notice when one choice changes the meaning of an entire sentence or reveals something the writer never intended to imply.

That attention to language shapes everything I create. I don’t manufacture personalities or polish the language until no actual human would speak that way. I find the real voice underneath the noise and use it to connect with the people who need to hear it.

Eight years later, I’ve found the freedom I came here looking for. I get to make complicated things clearer, help people and businesses find the right words and spend my days doing work that matters.

It’s a darn good place to be.
